The battle for a successor of Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu after twenty-eight years as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame is getting fierce and tense.
Several New Patriotic Party (NPP) members including the Suame Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Maxwell Ofosu Boakye are lacing boots to contest the party’s upcoming January 17, 2024 parliamentary primaries.
A legal practitioner and a lecturer at the Ghana Institution of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), John Darko is also in the race jostling for the position of the parliamentary seat slot.
However, political pundits have described the contest as a two-horse predicting a win for the MCE, Maxwell Ofosu Boakye reportedly endorsed by Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, party delegates as well as ranks and file of the party in the constituency.
Submitting his nomination form to the Constituency party executives, Hon. Ofosu Boakye told the press, scores of NPP faithful and sympathizers, as well as delegates his visions to lead the party at the local level.
According to Hon. Ofosu Boakye, he has learned a lot from Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as a former Aide, and will bring all his experience gathered to bear to retain the seat for the NPP.
“I’d like to thank the people who accompanied me to submit my form this morning. The very person who has made this seat so prominent is my godfather in politics. And I’ve been under his tutelage and I have learned a lot.
“I believe the past the past 15 years, I have been his Special Assistant later graduating to become Municipal Chief Executive. I have gained enough experience and I believe with this experience we cannot go in ‘a novice’ to occupy this position.” he stated.
Stressing: “We need someone who has a lot of experience. And I believe am capable of stepping into his shoes and then bringing the goodies.”
Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye also stated that he would follow the steps of Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and his good offices to bring development to the people of Suame should he become their Member of Parliament.
‘I’ll not promise heaven and earth to people. As a Member of Parliament, you are just an agent of development. I will go and lobby for a project. Like Osei, Kyei Bonsu says whatever he does is not from his pocket. In the same way, I have been with him, I will go to other quarters and lobby”, Hon. Maxwell Ofosu Boakye, the Suame MCE said.
He also admonished his followers to eschew all forms of negative words that would bring division to the party.
The Constituency Secretary of the party received the nomination form on behalf of the other executives.
