Traders at Kumasi Kejetia Market popularly known as ‘Dubai Market’ have described the electricity situation there as dire, as three out of four metres are now malfunctioning.
Two of the remaining three are currently faulty and not able to provide regular power to the market since one transformer cannot power the market.
Capital Online Team can report one of the transformers at the ultra-modern marker facility broke down early this year and is still not repaired.
President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Akwasi Prempeh, fears this could lead to something unpalatable if immediate steps are not taken to address the challenges.
“I fear that in case the remaining one also becomes faulty, how will the market get regular power supply, why are we waiting for all to breakdown? he quizzed in a Facebook post.
“Even the remaining to power the entire market unless there is power rationing. Power rationing in the market is also not the ideal way to go bcos we are all hooked to one bulk meter. Who should enjoy power at the behest of others as we all pay the same bills, confusion galore!!!
“The alternative GENT SETS’S which we could have fallen on in case of emergency too is not reliable. Of the four, one has also broken down leaving three. The cost of fueling these generators is also on the high.
“In fact, all is not well in the market and the powers that be should take a careful look at the place again,” Nana Prempeh said.
