Chris Houghton named his final 27-man squad for the 2023 AFCON earlier on Monday. In the squad, the headlines were Dede Ayew’s inclusion to make his 8th appearance in the tournament, Athletic Bilbao’s forward Inaki Williams, red-hot Westham attacker Kudus Mohammed and Monaco’s centre-back Mohammed Salisu’s inclusion.
Medeama’s duo of Fatawu Hamidu and Jonathan Sowah made the final squad as Asante Kotoko’s fantastic midfielder Richmond Lamptey was included.
Thomas Partey, Fatawu Issahaku, Kamaldeen Suleymana and Baba Rahman all missed out.
Speaking after the naming of the squad, the Ghana Football Association president sounded optimistic ahead of the AFCON.
Kurt Okraku said, “Ivory Coast is possible” when quizzed about Ghana’s chances of lifting the trophy in February.
Ghana has gone 41 years since last winning the trophy in 1982 in Libya. Expectations among many Ghanaians are low ahead of the tournament as Ghana has been very inconsistent recently.
Ghana will play against Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique in the Group B of the 2023 AFCON.
