Brighton and Hove Albion FC right-back Tariq Lamptey, 23, has been included in Ghana’s 55-man provisional squad for the 2023 AFCON to be hosted in Cote d’Ivoire to the surprise of his club, Brighton.
Roberto De Zerbi, the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion, has expressed his shock and disappointment in Ghana coach Chris Houghton for inviting an injured player to the national team.
The Italian said, “He is not available to play with us, so how will he play with the Ghana national team? It seems that the Ghana national team coach does not follow the Premier League.”
The former Chelsea right-back has been out since 11 November with an unknown injury having missed 8 games. His exact return date is still not available.
Ghana is in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique for AFCON 2023.
